Manuel M. Melgoza – June 9, 2025
I recommend readers to view the video posted on YouTube on June 8, 2025, titled: “Max Tegmark: Can We Prevent AI Superintelligence From Controlling Us?” Jan Jekielek, editor of The Epoch Times, and moderator for the video series named American Thought Leaders, led the thought-provoking discussion. I wrote a comment to The Epoch Times, quoted below:
“Great discussion led by Jan Jekielek on June 8, 2025 on YouTube! I share Jan’s concerns over whether – especially in light of recent reports that some AI models decline to follow shut-down commands and even attempt to undermine human operators – we can prevent AI from Controlling its human creators. My concerns go deeper. Is it possible (or even feasible) to preclude demonic forces of darkness from injecting their influence via unwitting programmers/AI trainers into AI Superintellingence systems?
Max Tegmark seemed overly optimistic in positing that “everyone” does not want AI to be able to control humans or take actions to harm or eradicate humans. But, experience has proven that, despite the overwhelming majority who seek to do good, there is a fraction that attempts to use technology to execute destruction. Note the proliferation of malware attacks, computer-based attacks on electrical infrastructures, etc. Even assuming we can develop a “benevolent” AI Superintelligence system and if we could program it to “fight” malevolent AI systems, would we merely be attempting to create an artificial God?”
I’m curious as to what my readers think of the above topic.
