Ancient Aliens, UFOs/UAPs, & and Artificial Super Intelligence

Several “experts” recently publicized evidence believed to suggest the existence of extraterrestrial and/or interdimensional “intelligent” entities and beings visiting planet Earth over many years and perhaps centuries. Other researchers now warn of existential threats posed by Artificial Intelligence (when it progresses to “Artificial General Intelligence” and then “Artificial Super Intelligence”) capable of destroying mankind if developed unrestricted. There is a tendency by those debating these developments to regard both phenomena as having capabilities superior to that of humans. Indeed, some regard them as god-like.

How should Christian believers view such developments? The “entities” presumably possess higher levels of knowledge that is unknown and sometimes imperceptible to human biological senses, thus elevating them above humans in the discourse. But, knowledge itself, no matter how complex or sophisticated, is not wisdom.

“Alien-based technology” or artificial intelligence may generate impressive answers as to “how” new discoveries and technologies work. Buth they do not answer the “whys” of our existence and consciousness. Why was mankind created? For what purposes? Why was mankind endowed not only with intelligence superior to animals, but also the ability to exercise discernment and free will? After all, humans were not made as robots programmed to always act in obedience.

Only God’s revelations (e.g., the Scriptures), can truthfully answer such questions. The source of the Scriptures, God, knows the hows and whys of everything He alone created. His creation includes things that exist but which humans cannot physically observe.

For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16) Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3)

God’s Sovereignty

No “entity” is superior to the Creator. God formed the universe at His own command, and what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:40) He determines the number of the stars. (Psalm 147:4-5) “Praise Him all his angels . . . all His heavenly hosts . . . all you shining stars . . . you highest heavens . . . Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at His command they were created.” (Psalm 148:2-13)

“God presides over heaven’s court; He pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings. (Psalm 82:1) For the Lord is a great God, above all gods. He is to be feared above all gods. The Lord made the heavens! Give to the Lord the glory He deserves! (Psalms 95-96) The Lord is God; besides Him there is no other. (Deuteronomy 4:35) So that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. (Isaiah 43:10) “. . . so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God.” (Isaiah 37:20) “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:1-8, 19) The Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true by being in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20)

God’s Purposes

God’s divine nature is love. God made humans with free will to choose to love Him or to reject Him. Machines and automatons are incapable of making this choice. Although God could have created humans who would uniformly obey all His instructions, they would be incapable of demonstrating true love and reverence to Him. A forced love is not love at all.

“Sometimes God allows what He hates to accomplish what He loves.”

― Joni Eareckson Tada, The God I Love

God is also good, according to Scripture. He desires his children to do good, as He is and does good.[1] In order for mankind to do good, we need wisdom and not just any wisdom. God explicitly desires to give His wisdom to mankind – not merely unbridled knowledge, as is the purported aim of the enemy.[2]

Likewise, ungodly non-human intelligence may provide mankind abundant knowledge about what and how things can be done. But, it cannot provide guidance on what should be done, and the circumstances of when it should be done. Only Godly wisdom can accomplish these goals. The only source of Godly wisdom is the Creator Himself.

“They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light. But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living. (Job 28:11-13) Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? . . . It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing. Destruction[b] and Death say, “Only a rumor of [wisdom] has reached our ears.”

God understands the way to it and He  alone knows where it dwells, for He views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. . . He looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. And he said to the human race,

The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding. (Job 28:20-28)

When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice. ( 1 Kings 3:28) “To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are His.” (Job 12:13)

God’s creation loves and reveres the Creator. God’s Word reveals His desire that humans to turn away from rebellion and submit to His rule and His righteousness, to choose to love Him, to declare our faith and belief in Him, and thus be reconciled to Him. Only then are we declared worthy of living in His presence and in unity with him for eternity – Eternal life. Scripture confirms this conclusion.

God created the heavens and the earth and light. “God saw that the light was good . . .” God separated the land, the waters and the sky and “saw that this was good.” “The land produced vegetation . . And God saw that it was good. . .” God created the stars in the skies to separate the day from the night, to serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, . . . [and] to give light on the earth. . . . And God saw that it was good. . .” God created the creatures of the sea, land and sky, and saw “that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and . . . saw that it was good.

Then God made mankind in His image and likeness, “so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. . . . God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. . .

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” So the Lord God . . . made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man . . . .” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish . . . and the birds . . . and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”. . . Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant . . . and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. [and] every green plant for food.” . . . God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. (Genesis 1:1-2:7)

Unity With God in Christ

The Bible is replete with references about God’s good intentions for His creation. They all lead to ultimate unity with God, and no other “entity.”

“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. (Exodus 9:16 )

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’” (Exodus 5:1)

The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness.  Let my people go, so that they may worship me. (Exodus 7:16; 8:1; 8:20; 9:1,13; 10:3)

Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God. (Exodus 8:10)

And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. (Exodus 14:17)

I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God. (Exodus 29:46)

Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children. (Deuteronomy 4:10)

You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other. (Deuteronomy 4:35)

. . . so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands. . . (Deuteronomy 6:2; 17:19)

He “will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.”(Deuteronomy 30:6)

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.” (Joshua 4:24) . . . so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel . . . so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other. (1 Kings 8:43, 60) . . . so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. (Psalm 145:12)

His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 3:10-11)

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours. Seventy years are given to us. Some may even live to eighty. Soon they disappear. . . Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. (Psalm 90:4,10,12)

So that your trust may be in the Lord. (Proverbs 22:19) He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in His paths. (Isaiah 2:3)

“[B]uild my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord. (Haggai 1:8)

. . . to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:21) . . . so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom . . . (Luke 22:30) Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. (Romans 10:4)

To those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. . . For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. . . the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:12-13,17,29) He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:4)

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me. And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”. . . The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. (John 6:38-40,63)

Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. (John 12:36, 46)

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. . . . The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing His work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me . . . so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14: 6-13)

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. . . . No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. . . . This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:1-8)

Father, . . . glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those you have given Him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. . . . “I have revealed you[a] to those whom you gave me out of the world. . . . For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. (John 17:1-8,19)

His purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. (Ephesians 2:15-16)

The Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (1 John 5:20) . . . so that they may be one as We are one. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. (John 17:11, 20-24)

Conclusion

Christians must not allow themselves to be deceived by the lure of “alien discoveries” or seemingly benevolent promises related to artificial superintelligence. Rather, our focus should remain on Christ above all else.

The mystery of His will [is] to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. (Ephesians 1:8-10) . . . so that only together with us would they be made perfect. (Hebrews 11:40). . . so that in everything He might have the supremacy. (Colossians 1:18)

[1] To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. (Romans 2:7) Let us not become weary in doing good. (Galatians 6:9) And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. (2 Thessalonians 3:13)

[2] – the serpent was more crafty . . . He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said . . . “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:1-23
